New cards
Parable of the fishing net
Matthew 13: 47-50

The Church/Kingdom of God and her workers gather up both the good people and the bad people. At the end of time, the angels will go over the “catch” and do the sorting. The good people will enter heaven, and the bad people will burn in hell.
2
New cards
Parable of the Sower and the Seed
Matthew 13 1-23

Everyone hears the same message about the Kingdom, but not everyone accepts it. Only those who are “good soil” can recognize the Kingdom, accept it for what it is, and bear fruit for others.
3
New cards
Parable of the Weeds among the Wheat
Matthew 13 24-30

The Church is full of good and bad people. Sometimes you can’t tell them apart. God allows both types to remain until the end of time, when they will be “harvested” and separated. The sinner will be thrown into the fire, and the true believers will enter heaven.
4
New cards
Parable of the Hidden Treasure
Matthew 13:44

The value of the Church is “hidden” and only those who work to understand its richness will uncover it. When found, it is more valuable than anything else.
5
New cards
Parable of the Leaven (Yeast)
Matthew 13:33

Leaven is something that helps transform something for the better, like yeast makes bread rise. But you can’t always tell what is making that change for the better happen. The beliefs of the Church have made its way through cultures “unseen” but are changing them from the inside out for the better.
6
New cards
Parable of the Pearl
Matthew 13 47-50

Those who aren’t careful or concerned about what Jesus taught, and don’t spend enough time examining it and studying it, can fail to recognize the value of the Church.
7
New cards
Parable of the Mustard Seed
Matthew 13 31-32

One single man, Jesus, died to bring forth the Church, which has grown into the largest and longest lasting religious institution in history. The entire world has benefitted from this one, small act of sacrifice . . . much like birds can benefit from the growth of a single seed into a tree.
