Prejudice

Negative attitudes about individuals based on their group background

Discrimination

Negative behaviors directed toward a individuals as a result of prejudiced beliefs.

Deindividuation

the loss of self-awareness leading to impulsive actions when immersed in a group

Group Think

phenomenon where groups prioritize consensus over critical thinking

Group Polarization

phenomenon where individuals in a group form more extreme views after talking with other that share similar views

In Group

a social group which an individual feels a sense of identity and belonging

Out Group

social group to which an individual does not belong or identify

In-Group vs. Out-group

tendency to favor members of a group they belong to often at the expense of those outside the group.

Stereotype

A generalized belief about a group’s characteristics

Scapegoat

a group or individual who is blamed in order to avoid accountability

Attribution Theory

focuses on the causes of our behavior, and whether they were influenced by internal characteristics or external conditions

Fundamental Attribution Error

the tendency to overemphasize personality as the explanation for behavior while underestimating the situation’s impact

Factors of Attraction

Proximity (closeness), Similarity (commonality), Self-disclosure (Trust, getting to know each other)

Law of Attractiveness (Evolutionary)

In the long run, you will end up with someone who is the same attractiveness as you.

Mere Exposure Effect (behavioral)

Liking a person without talking to them, response to a stimulus. Extreme example: Love at first sight
