• 55% came from the unemployed many ex servicemen from the war- gave the unemployed jobs

• set us ss- similar to SA but more loyal and personal to Hitler (body guards)

• membership of the party rose to over 100,000 by 1928

creation of propaganda

• Hitler appointed Joseph Goebells to take control of propaganda- he was highly efficient of spreading the Nazi message

• believed the best way of reaching the masses was appealing to their feelings rather than rational argument

• produced leaflets, films, posters and radio 

• set up photo oppurtunities and trained party members to speak publically
