What is our Normal Takeoff and Climb Procedure?
Align and announce “ Aligned with runway centerline
Smoothly apply full power
Announce “Engine gauges green, Airspeed alive”
Rotate at 60 KIAs (Speed varies)
Initial climb at Vy - 76 KIAS
Continue with Normal Traffic Pattern Procedure
What is our Short-Field Takeoff and Climb Procedure?
Set flaps to 25
Taxi on to runway, if possible use as much runway as possible
Align yourself to runway centerline
Hold the breaks
Smoothly apply full throttle and announce “Full static RPM”
Release the breaks
Announce “Engine gauges green, Airspeed alive”
Rotate at - 60
Maintain Vx - 64
Announce once clear of obstacles, then retract flaps to 10
Accelerate to Vy - 76 KIAS
Retract flaps
What is our Soft-Field Takeoff and Climb Procedure?
Set flaps to 25 and apply full back pressure
Align and announce “ Aligned with runway centerline
Smoothly apply full power
Announce “Engine gauges green, Airspeed alive”
Once you feel the nose rise, release back pressure by a small amount
When the main wheels lift off reduce pitch attitude to maintain aircraft in ground effect while accelerating to Vx - 64 KIAS or Vy - 76 KIAS
Announce once clear of obstacles, then retract flaps to 10
Accelerate to Vy - 76 KIAS
Retract flaps
How do you fly a traffic pattern?
Establish yourself in the downwind at 90 KIAS at 2000 RPM
Run the Approach & Landing Checklist
Abeam landing point apply 10° of flaps
At a 45° angle from the runway turn to the base leg
On the base leg reduce RPM to 1800 and apply flaps 25°, descend at 80 KIAS
Turn final, reduce speed to 70 KIAS and apply flaps 45° when landing is assured
What is our Maneuvering in Slow Flight procedure?
Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist
Reduce RPM to 1500
Maintain Altitude while applying flaps to desired configuration (As flaps go up push the nose down to avoid climbing)
Once airspeed is above 5kts of desired speed apply power to maintain altitude, usually around 2100 RPM
Once done with the maneuver recover using the correct procedure
Notes: Turns are performed at no more than 10 degrees of bank, climb at full power, and descend at 1500 RPM
How to do a Power Off Stall?
Complete your Pre-Maneuver Checklist
Find outside reference point, and remember its heading
Power 1500 RPM
Full flaps while pushing down to prevent climb
Pitch for 76 KIAS and descend 100’ to simulate approach to final
While slowly raising the nose, set power to idle and stall
Pull up until a stall indication (stall horn, engine buffet, loss of altitude)
Recover by lowering the nose and increasing power below the horizon
How to recover from a stall?
Lower the nose
Apply full power when nose below the horizon
Reduce flaps to 25 if flaps applied
Verify positive rate, flaps 10
Once at Vy set flaps 0
How to do a Power On stall?
Pre Maneuver Check
Set visual reference, and remember its heading
Power 1500RPM
Verify flaps retracted then set power idle
Maintain altitude while slowing to Vr
If airspeed stabilizes before or you hear the stall horn set power 2000 RPM
Pitch up no more than 20 degrees
Recover at first indication
How to perform Steep Turns?
Complete Pre-Maneuver Checklist
Choose outside reference point and bug it.
At 100 KIAS slowly roll to a bank of 45° (When passing 30° add 100RPM)
Notes: When rolling to 45° neutralize the ailerons by quickly turning the opposite way.
Correct altitude using back pressure, speed using power
How to perform S-Turns?
Pre Maneuver Check
Enter downwind at 1,000 AGL and at 100KIAS
Steepest with a tailwind, then moderate when transitioning to a headwind, and then shallow with a headwind.
How to divert?
Perform 360° Turns and maintain altitude at 100KIAS while obtaining information.
Write down all relevant information on Nav log.
Bug new heading, and obtain frequencies.
Obtain weather of airport, and proceed to it.
Find out what runways are in use/talk to tower.
How to perform an Emergency Descent?
Set heading 90° toward any direction
Power Idle
Slow to Vfe & Flaps 40°
Pitch down while banking 30°
Pitch for 95 KIAS
Recover
How do you set up for an Instrument Approach?
A: ATIS
A: Approach Briefing
A: Approach Setup
Tune & ID Frequencies
Direct to Airport
Procedures and select approach
Verify on Map
Change to either GPS or VLOC
Set appropriate datablock
Verify frequencies
