Unit 1 Geometry Vocab

Point

A geometric element having definite position but no size, shape or extention

Line

Any straight one-dimensional geometrical element who’s identity is determined by 2 different points. (no endpoints)

Line Segment

Any finite segment of a line (2 endpoints)

Ray

Any straight line that extends from a point (1 endpoint)

Plane

A flat, 2D surface that extends indefinitely

Angle

The difference in direction between 2 lines or surfaces, measured in degrees. (Vertex is alway middle letter)

Collinear Points

2 or more points that share the same straight line

Coplanar Lines

Lines that share the same plane

Skew Lines

Two or more lines that lie on different planes, do not intersect and aren’t parallel

Parallel Lines

Lines that lie in the same plane but will never meet no matter how far extended

Perpendicular Lines

Lines that intersect at a 90 degree angle
