Covalent Bonding
A sharing of electrons between atoms, specifically nonmetals.
Single Covalent Bond
A bond made up of two electrons, with one electron donated by each atom.
Molecular Formula
The chemical formula that indicates the exact makeup of one molecule.
Molecular Compounds
Compounds consisting of molecules formed by covalent bonding.
Properties of Molecular Compounds
Weaker bonds compared to ionic bonds, lower melting and boiling points, and can exist as solids, liquids, or gases at room temperature.
Dot Formula
A representation that shows the valence electrons of atoms within a molecule.
Structural Formula
A representation that shows how atoms in a molecule are bonded to each other.
Double Bond
A bond consisting of two shared pairs of electrons (four electrons total).
Triple Bond
A bond consisting of three shared pairs of electrons (six electrons total).
