Tragic Hero
a type of character in a tragedy, and is usually the protagonist

a character trait that leads to or contributes to a character's downfall
Hubris
extreme pride or arrogance that often leads to downfall
Catharsis
the purging or cleansing of strong emotions experienced by the audience, leading to a feeling of emotional relief
Blank Verse
poetry that does not rhyme but follows a regular meter
Iambic pentameter
a rhythmic pattern that consists of ten syllables per line, with alternating stressed and unstressed syllables
Soliloquy
a speech where a character speaks their inner thoughts aloud, to reveal their feelings, plans, or conflicts directly to the audience
Aside
a short comment, often seen as a fourth wall break, delivered while other characters are onstage
