Standard Form of a Polynomial
ax^n + bx^(n-1) + cx^(n-2) + dx + e, where the terms are ordered from greatest to smallest by the exponents.
Degree of a Polynomial
the largest exponent in the polynomial.
Constant Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 0, such as 12.
Linear Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 1, such as 8x.
Cubic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 3, such as 7x^3 + 5x^3.
Quadratic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 2, such as x^2 - 3x - 6.
Trinomial Polynomial
A polynomial with 3 terms, such as x^2 - 3x - 6.
Quartic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 4, such as 1/4x^2 + 2x - 6x + 5.
Quintic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 5, such as (4t) - 3x^4.
Leading Coefficient
The coefficient of the term with the greatest exponent in a polynomial.
