Diversity
A range of different things, especially inclusion of different races, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, nationality, and other dimensions.
Inclusion
The practice of ensuring that people feel a sense of belonging and support.
The Gender Wage Gap
The difference in median earnings between men and women in the workforce.
Employment Equity Act
A federal legislation that requires employers with 100+ employees to implement an employment equity plan.
Harassment
Unwelcome behavior that demeans or humiliates a person and is considered discriminatory under Canadian law.
Designated Groups (DGs)
Groups identified in the Employment Equity Act that include women, people with disabilities, indigenous people, and visible minorities.
Pay Equity
The principle that men and women should be paid equally for work of equal value.
Occupational Segregation
The distribution of people across and within occupations, based on demographic characteristics.
Unpaid Employment Leaves
Leaves granted to employees without pay for specific reasons, such as maternity or adoption.
Minimum Wage
The lowest remuneration that employers can legally pay their workers.
Employer Responsibility
The obligation of an employer to prevent harassment and take action in the workplace.
Compliance Audits
Inspections conducted to ensure adherence to laws and regulations in employment standards.
