Temporal Lobes
Located below the Sylvian fissure and anterior to the occipital cortex; associated with functions such as memory processing, emotional regulation, and sensory processing.
Limbic Cortex
Part of the temporal lobes that regulates emotions and memory processing.
Amygdala
Structure in the temporal lobes that processes fear and emotional responses, involved in threat detection.
Hippocampus
Crucial part of the temporal lobes important for long-term memory and spatial navigation.
Superior Temporal Sulcus (STS)
Region that integrates auditory, visual, and somatosensory information; plays a role in perception of biological motion.
Wernicke’s Area
Located in the left hemisphere; critical for understanding spoken language.
Anterograde Amnesia
Inability to form new long-term memories, often due to damage in the medial temporal lobe.
Prosopagnosia
Inability to recognize faces, typically linked to damage in the fusiform face area of the brain.
Thatcher Illusion
Demonstrates that upright faces are processed differently than inverted ones.
Pseudodepression
Condition characterized by apathy, reduced motivation, and emotional blunting due to left frontal damage.
Broca's Aphasia
Difficulty in producing speech while comprehension remains relatively intact.
Split-Brain Research
Studies investigating the consequences of callosal commissurotomy, revealing interhemispheric communication issues.
Dyslexia
A language-related disorder characterized by difficulties with reading and processing speech sounds.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
A disorder resulting from prenatal alcohol exposure, leading to brain abnormalities and learning difficulties.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
A neurodevelopmental disorder linked to difficulties in social cognition and understanding others' perspectives.
ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, associated with dysfunction in the frontal-basal ganglia system.
