cell membrane
monitors and controls entry into and out of the cell. The cytoplasm is the fluid that fills the cell.
Nucleus
It holds the DNA for the cell
vacuole
Large fluid filled space in a plant cell
cell wall
thick rigid layer surronding the plant cell.
mitochondria
produces energy to fuel the cell's activities, cellular respiration takes place here
chloroplast
The food producer for the plant cell, it converts the energy of the sun into sugar
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Aids in the transports of proteins made by ribosomes. Note, there is a smooth one and a rough one
Ribosomes
transport proteins
Golbi Aparatus
It aids in the modification, distribution and packaging of proteins made in the cell.
Centriole
They are only found in animal cells and they help chromosomes move during cell division
Peroxisomes
Small structures surrounded by a membrane, they contain the different types of enzymes used by the cell to produce energy.
Cellular Membrane
The cell (or plasma) membrane moniters and selectively controls entry into and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
To maintain the shape and consistancy of the cell. It is the fluid that fills the cell
Plasmid
Small extra piece of circular DNA found inside bacteria
Flagella
whip-like tails that help bacteria move
Nucleoid
The region of Bacteria that contains DNA
Lysosome
They act as the digestive system in the cell, breaking down old and unneeded parts. They also break down substances brought from outside the cell.
Nucleolus
The part of the nucleus that makes the parts needed to build ribosomes
Nuclear Membrane
It controls what what enters and leaves the nucleus. Also called nuclear envelope.
centrosome
Area where microtubules are produced
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Protein synthesis takes place here. It helps hold the shape of the cell togehter and transports materials. Chemical reactions also can occur on its surface.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
packages proteins for transport in vesicles, synthesizes membrane phosolipids, and releases calcium.
Cytoskeleton
Transport system that is also the protein structure in a cell and therefore prevents cells from collapse.
Nucleoplasm
The gel inside the nucleus that hold the DNA.
vesicle
A bubble like thing with an outer surface made of the same material as the outer surface of the cell, this bubble transports materials (mostly proteins) in and out of the cell. When something large and foreign in being brought in by the cell, it is enveloped in the wall which will wraparound it and let go of the stuff wrapping it, creating a vesicle.
Chromosomes
organized structures containing DNA and protei the nucleus that holds genetic material.. They are located in the nucleus as coiled strands of DNA.
Vacoule
They store food and waste, expel bad substances from the cell and maintain pressure/movement.
