Intro and Week 1

Causes of cavities

Bacteria live in our mouths and when they come into contact with sugar foods, they form acids. The acids attack enamel on the exterior and eat through enamel to form holes in teeth.

Anterior Teeth

6-11 top, 22-27 bottom (6 on both top and bottom)

Posterior Teeth

1-5 and 12-16 top, 17-21 and 28-32 bottom

Begins when last primary tooth is lost, labeled with numbers

Child primary dentition

Starts on arrival of mandibular incisors, labeled with letters

Mixed dentition

Begins when first permanent tooth appears in mouth and continues until pt has lost all primary teeth

Anterior surfaces:

Incisal, facial, mesial, distal, lingual, proximal

Posterior surfaces:

Occlusal, buccal, mesial, distal, lingual, proximal

Incisal

Biting edge of anterior tooth (A)

Facial

Surface that faces the cheeks or lips (A)

Mesial

Surface closest to midline of the face (A+P)

Distal

Surface that is away from the midline of the face (A+P)

Lingual

Surface that faces tongue (A+P)

Proximal

Tooth surfaces that are next to each other (A+P)

Occlusal

Chewing surface of posterior teeth (P)

Buccal

Surface toward cheeks (P)

Opening rooms

Turn on lights, log onto computer, sign into open dental and bring up assignments, turn on suctions, turn on x-ray machine, turn on tv, stock rooms

Closing rooms

Turn off the lights, log off of computer, turn off dental unit, turn off x-ray machine, turn off tv, use slug buster to flush suctions and initial jug, sign off on closing sheet

Cavi wipes

Used to clean dirty instruments in room, wipe counters, chairs, and suctions

Peroxide wipes

Used to clean electronics and x-ray equipment

Alcohol spray

Used to clean electronics and x-ray equipment

Slug buster

Used to flush the suction lines after extractions and at the end of the day

Ultrasonic

Machine in sterile where utensils are submerged to remove blood

Pt arrives at office

Pt is seated in operatory, click it before you take pt to room

Once pt is sat,

open pt chart and review medical history, add whatever is needed, type date and initials in medical summary tab
