Hydraulic Flux
The rate of flow of water through an aquifer.
Permeability
The ease at which a media can transport fluid.
Residence Time
The average amount of time a water molecule is present in a reservoir.
Saturated Zone
The area in an aquifer where all pore spaces are filled with water.
Unsaturated Zone
The area in an aquifer where pore spaces contain both air and water.
Capillary Fringe
The zone above the water table where water is held in pore spaces by capillary action.
Discharge
The volume of fluid that flows through a given cross-section per unit of time.
Evapotranspiration
The combined process of evaporation and plant transpiration.
Hydrologic Balance
The relationship between the inputs and outputs of water in a system.
Infiltration
The process by which water enters the soil from the surface.
Groundwater Recharge
The process by which water from precipitation or surface water enters the groundwater system.
