What advantages did the British have in the war?
A better army, navy, money, and resources. This gave them an advantage at the start of the war.

They had more motivation, knowledge of the land and support. Since their armies actually wanted their independence and if they didn’t win, rules would be much harsher

The North. This happened because the North contained most of the Americas supplies, armies, and military bases so they thought by taking over the North would instantly get them ahead

A battle where the colonists realized how good British armies were. So as a result they would drop their guns and run so they could escape the British faster.
What happened at the Battle of Trenton?
When the Americans went across the river and snuck up on the British while they were sleeping then attacked them. Although it was a victory, it didn’t prove anything because the British were literally sleeping.
What happened at the Battle of Saratoga?
America's first big win. After this, the French joined them because it proved to the French that joining the war wouldn’t be a waste of resources and energy.
Which country agreed to help the Americans after Saratoga?
Since the Americans proved that this war wasn’t a waste of time and they would do anything to get independence, the French agreed to help them.
In which ways did the French help the American war effort?
They gave American’s troops, money, supplies, and food. But they also fought the British and other countries and started a global war with them. This helped the British spend less time on the Americans and that probably wasn’t their biggest problem any more.
Where was Washington and forced to set up winter camp in 1777?
Washington had to set up camp in Valley Forge. It was a camp with very bad conditions.
What were conditions like for the American soldiers at Valley Forge?
Terrible. There was no real housing, it was freezing cold, the soldiers made huts with fires in them but no chimneys, and the soldiers were constantly sick.
Why did soldiers feel motivated to stay in the army at Valley Forge?
They knew things would get better in the spring, and that if they let others would too, and so many people would leave and there would be barely anybody to fight for their independence.
How did British strategy change in the 2nd half of the war?
The British strategy changed in the 2nd half of the war because instead of keep targeting northern colonies they started targeting Southern colonies.
How did the Americans react to the British strategy?
They took their armies down into the Southern colonies, and surrounded the British troops. When they did that they cut off supplies, and eventually forced the British armies to surrender. Winning them the battle of Yorktown.
Why did Washington secretly move his army from NY to Virginia?
Washington took his army secretly down to Virginia to sneak attack the British army, specifically Cornwallis. They surrounded them, and by the time British troops realized it was too late and Washington troops were already there and ready to fight.
What happened in the Battle of Yorktown?
The American troops surrounded Cornwallis troops and by doing that they cut off supplies. So British soldiers were constantly sick and wounded, the American troops took that opportunity and fought them, with the French controlling the port, the Americans won the battle of Yorktown.

Said that the Americans were independent, had more land, didn’t have to pay taxes, had control on products they made and could fish in the Atlantic Ocean.
