Biodiversity
The incredible variety of life on our planet, including different species of plants, animals, and other organisms.
Species
A group of living things that can reproduce with each other, such as all lions or all oak trees.
Population
A group of individuals of the same species living in the same area, like all rabbits in a particular forest.
Community
Different populations of various species living together in the same area.
Habitat
The natural home of a plant, animal, or other organism, providing everything needed for survival.
Ecosystem
A biological community interacting with its environment, including all living things in an area.
Importance of Biodiversity
Having many different species helps keep ecosystems balanced and healthy.
Equator
An area that generally sustains a greater variation of species due to warm, stable climates.
Biodiversity Hotspots
Regions that are particularly rich in biodiversity, often near the equator.
Climate's Role in Biodiversity
Warmer climates near the equator support more species than colder, extreme climates further north and south.
