Midsagittal Plane

A vertical line that vides the body into equal right and left halves

Transverse plane

a horizontal line dividing the body into upper and lower portions

Abdominal cavity

Body space containing the major digestive organs

Thoracic cavity

Chest cavity containing the heart and lungs

Pelvic cavity

Space formed by the hip bones containing reproductive and excretory organs

Epigastric region

Upper middle section of the abdomen

Hypogastric region

Lower middle section of the abdomen, below the stomach

Umbilicus

Belly button; central point of the abdomen

Retroperitoneal

Located behind the peritoneum, the lining of the abdominal cavity

Peritoneum

Membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and covers abdominal organs 

Mesentery

Tissue that attaches intestines to the abdominal wall, holding them in place.
