explain from two different religions beliefs about forgiveness

Christianity

  • forgiveness is a central belief to christianity even mentioned in the lords prayer '“frogive their sins, as they forgive those who haved sinned against them.”

  • follow in jesus footsteps as he forgave those who trespassed him “forgive them father for they do not know what they are doing”

  • Anthany Walkers mother forgave her sons killers as its what her faith taught her. She forgave not for the murderers but for herself, to avoid being consumed by hate and bitterness.

Islam

  • Humans are not perfect and will sin and therefore forgiveness is important.

  • Qur’an states those who forgive are rewarded in heaven.

  • God is merciful - stated in 99 names

  • can be given by god and humans.

christianity

  • for many christians typically liberals may believe in following in the example of jesus, forgive those who wrong, aswell as help reform sinners instead of judging. "forgive them father, for they know not what they do"

  • Infact the Qakers actively oppose the death penalty as they believe life is a reflection of God and so is orthy of respect.

  • but more conservative christians believew the OT should be followed and death penalty necassary for heinous crimes and needed to keep society safe.

Islam

  • for some muslims they believe only allah can decide the time when someone dies, as well as the idea that only Allah can judge us on judgement day.

  • Others believe that Ummah is the main priority and that it must be protected and that the death penalty offers a definite and final method of protection

Explain 2 religions of attitudes and teachings about evil

christianity

  • For many christians they believe in an evil power named the devil or satan, who tempts people into committing sin. Often portreyed as acting against God.

  • For Many Catholics they teach and believe in original sin, the sin that everyone is inherintly born with. It was committed by adam and eve when they defied god. For catholics they sometimes think this is the cause of evil

  • some believe God allows evil in order for human sould to develop morally - soul making theory.

Islam

  • believe in devil

  • evil teaches that suffering is a result of previous actions

  • everything happens because of the will of Allah and good can become of suffering

  • free will can be the cause of evil

Christianity

  • For many christians they view punishment as important but should encorperate reformation and repentance and forgiveness - prison chaplains set out to achieve this as well as prison reformers.

  • But more many Conservative christians their main priority is to protect innocent society from offenders. this may mean they prioritise deterrence or protection

  • Teaching of Jesus being compassionate of all humans - good samiriton.

  • As people have been granted free will - must take responsibility for actions

Islam

  • again for many priority is ummah

  • free will

  • forgiveness

  • only god can judge and punish on judgement day

  • Some muslims agree with capitol punishment.
