Biodiversity
The combined diversity at all levels of biological organization, including genetic, species, and ecological diversity.
Species
The basic unit of classification, representing a group of individuals that can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.
Metabolism
The sum total of all chemical reactions occurring in the bodies of organisms.
Protoplasm
The living substance within a cell, consisting of cytoplasm and nucleus, containing genetic material DNA.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of relatively constant internal conditions within a living organism.
Nomenclature
The system or process of naming organisms according to the guidelines of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature.
Taxonomy
The science of classification of living organisms.
Evolution
The process by which life changes over time, advancing from simpler forms to more complex forms.
Parazoa
Multicellular animals without well-defined tissues, such as sponges.
Eumetazoa
Multicellular animals with well-defined tissues and higher levels of organization.
Phylogenetic Classification
Classification based on evolutionary relationships and common ancestry among organisms.
Genetic Diversity
The variety of genes within a species.
Species Diversity
The variety of species found in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
Ecological Diversity
The variety of ecosystems within a given area.
Binomial Nomenclature
A system of naming organisms using two names, typically the genus and species.
Cellular Organization
The arrangement of cells into functional structures, fundamental to all living organisms.
Sensitivity in Organisms
The ability of organisms to respond to external and internal stimuli.
