crime is determined by braking the laws we have set up to protect our society

defining deviance

deviance cant be simply defined it is social constructed there is objective deviance and subjective deviance

statistical rarity

things that are statical uncommon count as being deviance like having green hair or being a professional hockey player

Harm

causing physical harm to other is labeled as deviance behavior example if you are labeled an abuser you will be shunned by society

emotional harm

things like cyberbullying or regular bullying

social harm

things like rising obesity rates and climate change and discrimination

ontological harm

harm that occurs when there is a treat to your fundamental way of life like wars to to different religious beliefs

negative societal reaction

labeling deviance is based on emotion ,things we have a negative emotional response to too

normative violation

Deviance is made by the rich and powerful, the top one percent and it is planned carefully after many years the powerful use this to control everyone else

false consciousness is needed to fool the masses; this is the need to create deviance

The rich and powerful are rarely punished.

Status frustration

when the working class are not able to reach the standards and values of the middle class they become devant they reject society’s norms and values

Deviance is learned from parents or from people who are already deviant; it is also learned from small, intimate groups. Most people don’t know how to efficiently commit a crime so they teach themselves or learn it from others
