Beat
the main pulse of a piece that doesnât speed up or slow down. It stays steady
Beat division
like dividing an apple, we can divide the beat into halves, thirds, fourths, and so on
Meter
Like a ruler, a way to divide the beat into different groups of strong and weak beats
Simple Meter
the beats divide into groups of twos
Compound Meter
the beats divide into groups of threes
Duple Meter
where large beats group into two
Triple Meter
where large beats group into three
Quadruple Meter
where large beats group into four
Grand Staff
the combination of:
two staves (usually bass and treble)
bar line on the left
brace
double bar line
Brace
A squiggly line that connects two or more staves together
Bar line
a vertical line that goes up and down from the top of the staff to the bottom
