Output device
Hardware components that receive information from a computer system and present it to the user in a comprehensible form.
Monitor (CRT)
A type of output device with large viewing angles that can be used with light pens, but runs hot, is heavy, and consumes more power than other monitor types.
Monitor (LCD)
A low power, lightweight output device that has no flickering and no image burn-in, but can experience motion blur/ghosting and variable color & contrast from different viewing angles.
Monitor (LED)
An output device that has no motion blur/ghosting, low power consumption, and a long life, although it can be more expensive and may have poor contrast.
Touch screen (Output)
An intuitive, space-saving output device that is susceptible to smudge and may have calibration issues.
Multimedia projector
An output device that presents computer output on a much larger display, good for presentations but requires a darkened room and has variable quality.
Laser printer (Dry ink)
An output device known for fast, high-quality prints and lower cost per page, but with an expensive initial cost.
Inkjet printer (Four/five wet inks)
An output device with a lower initial cost and high-quality prints, but it generally operates slower and may smudge.
Dot matrix printer (Inked ribbon)
A low-cost output device that can print multi-part forms and is well-suited for long print runs, but is noisy and has low print quality.
Plotters (Drawing & blueprints)
Output devices known for high accuracy and the ability to print on various materials but are slow and expensive to buy.
3D printer
An output device used for customizable designs and rapid prototyping, with medical benefits but limited materials and high cost.
Speakers
Output devices that produce audio in a range of sizes and power outputs, providing immersive audio and helping people with disabilities, though higher quality output can be expensive.
Actuators
Output devices that enable precise movement and allow for automatic control of many devices, but require power and can suffer from mechanical wear.
