Original 13 Colonies
The first thirteen colonies established by Great Britain in North America.
New England Colonies
The group of colonies consisting of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.
Mid Atlantic Colonies
The group of colonies including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
Chesapeake Colonies
The group of colonies comprising Virginia and Maryland.
Lower South Colonies
The region including the Carolinas, going from southern Virginia to Florida.
Restoration
The period of restoring the monarchy in England following the English Civil War, specifically referring to Charles II's reign starting in 1660.
Interregnum
The period in England between the reign of Charles I and the restoration of Charles II, where there was no monarchy.
Oliver Cromwell
Leader of the Parliamentary army during the English Civil War, who became the lord protector during the Interregnum.
