what is social comparison?
making comparisons between our ingroup and outgroup
what does social comparison result in?
positive distinctivness, which is when you judge your group to be better and other groups to be worse

in-group favouritism which is when one favours members of their ingroup over the outgroup members
3 assumptions of SIT
1) simple act of being placed into groups is sufficient to cause conflict between them. 2) we have a personal and social identity. 3) individuals seek to establish a posititve group distinctivness to mainttain and enchance positive social identity and self esteem
