Automatic BP: Introduction and General Preparation ( 6 points)
Introduces self ( cleans hands) and wipe down equipment where needed
Identifies patient ( ⅔ info, name, address, DOB)
Explain the procedure, Cuff will be wrapped around your upper arm and inflated) - may feel slightly tight but not too uncomfortable and awill last for up to 20s
identify concerns and obtain consent
Expose right arm ( or left arm if any issues)
Position arm BP measurement point at the level of the heart
Put the cuff around the slide ( velcro facing up and artery mark showing down arm before sliding into the patient's arms (Fit 2 fingers inside the cuff)
• Seated position is normal practice
• Feet flat on the floor
• Ask them not to talk while the measurement is being taken
•Check they are comfortable

Switch on the machine and start recording
Read the BP correctly

Systolic (top number): The pressure when your heart beats.
Diastolic (bottom number): The pressure when your heart rests between beats.
Document findings to patient ( normal, elevated, high)
Discuss findings with patient ( refer to GP/ lifestyle modifications/ or healthy)
