infants (0-2 yrs old)
they started crawling, and the child begins to process info. they also interact with the world
toddlers (3-6 yrs old)
child absorbs info interactively. and the child personality begins to develop
adolescence (7-12 yrs old)
emotions and physical development, concept of attracting opposite sex. and physical changes begins to occur.
teens or young adult (13-19 yrs old)
physical and psychological sensation, needs a proper guidance of parents. peer group is also explored.
adult (20-beyond)
physical and psychological stabilization, manifest itself, and also develop complexities. self awareness is high
Erik Erikson
explained that the children developed in a predetermined order. also explains that a personality has 8 distinct stages, each with two possible outcome.
1st stage: trust or mistrust
begins at 0-18 months. infants learn to trust their caregiver who meets their basic needs. inconsistency results to mistrust
2nd stage: autonomy versus shame and doubt
begins around 2 and 3 yrs old. children are focused in this stage for developing a greater control of self.
3rd stage: initiative versus guilt (ages 4-5)
children asserts themselves more frequently. their ability to lead others and make decision starts to develop
4th stage: industry versus inferiority
children become capable of performing increasingly complex tasks. they strive to master new skills. children who are commended develop competence of belief in their ability.
5th stage: identity versus confusion
occurs during adolescence (12-18yrs old) independence and a sense of self developed
6th stage: intimacy versus isolation
(18 to 40 yrs old) forming intimate, loving relationship with other people. (whether they want to live alone or with some)
7th stage: generativity vs stagnation
40 to 65 yrs old. generativity refers to “making your marks” on the world that will outcast an individual
8th stage: integrity versus despair
65 and above. reflecting on one’s life and either moving into feeling satisfied or regrets
industry
a child’s involvement in situations where long, patient work is demanded.
inferiority
the feelings are created when child gets a feeling of failure when they cannot finish or master their school works.
John Locke or Tabula Rasa
says that the moment we are born, our mind is a clear slate and or empty.
