Name the structure of the Earth.
crust, mantle, outer core, inner core
Name the three plate boundaries
Constructive, Passive, Destrucive
What happens at a constructive plate boundary?
Two plates separate and a gap is formed. Magma rises up from the mantle to fill the gap, then cools and condenses.
What is the process that occurs in constructive plate boundaries called?
Sea-floor spreading
What do constructive plate boundaries form(example)?
They form volcanic mountains, islands and mid-ocean ridges. Example: Iceland(North American & Eurasian plates separated).
What happens at passive plate boundaries?
Two plates slide against each other. No land is created or destroyed, but a huge amount of energy is released.
What do passive plate boundaries form(example)?
Earthquakes; example San Andreas Fault in California( North American and Pacific plates).
What happens at destructive plate boundaries?
Two plates collide. The heavier plate subducts under the lighter plate, which is called subduction. It is then melted into the mantle.
What do destructive plate boundaries form(example)?
Fold mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes ;Example Nasca and South American plates collide.
What plate is Ireland on?
Eurasian Plate
What is Pangaea?
It is believed all continents were joined together in one huge land mass- known as Pangaea.
Who was behind the theory of Pangaea?
Wegner was the geologist behind this theory.
What is continental drift?
The term gien to the movement of continents away from each other due to plate movement.
