Interphase
The period of the cell cycle during which normal cell activities are occurring such as growth, repair, and DNA duplicates.

Cytokinesis
The division of the cytoplasm & cell membrane of a cell.

Prophase
Chromosomes become visible, nuclear envelope dissolves, spindle forms.

Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.

Anaphase
Phase of mitosis in which the sister chromatids separate and move to opposite ends of the cell.

Telophase
Final phase of mitosis during which chromosomes uncoil, a nuclear envelope returns around the chromatin, and a nucleolus becomes visible in each daughter cell.

How many cells are made?
2 daughter cells
How many chromosomes are in the daughter cells?
Same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
What do you call daughter cells in mitosis?
Body Cells or
Somatic Cells
How many chromosomes are in a human body cell?
46 Chromosomes
TERM
DNA
DEFINITION
(Deoxyribonucleic acid) a complex molecule containing the genetic information that makes up the chromosomes.

TERM
Chromosome
DEFINITION
Two identical chromatids joined to each other at the centromere.

TERM
Chromatin
DEFINITION
Uncoiled strand of DNA.

TERM
Chromatid
DEFINITION
One copy of a newly copied chromosome which is still joined to the other by a centromere (half a chromosome).

TERM
Centomere
DEFINITION
Region of a chromosome where the two sister chromatids attach

TERM
Centrioles
DEFINITION
Located near the nucleus and help to organize cell division. Helps in creation of spindle fibers.

TERM
Sister Chromatids
DEFINITION
Replicated forms of a chromosome joined together by the centromere and eventually separated during mitosis or meiosis II.
TERM
Nucleus
DEFINITION
A part of the cell containing DNA.
