Revelation

Imperceptible

(1) not able to be perceived by a sense or by the mind; (2) extremely slight, gradual, or subtle

Discontent

lack of satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or situation

Probity

adherence to the highest principles and ideals; uprightness

Guile

deceitful or sly cunning; trickery

Incredulously

in a manner indicating disbelief

Apprehensively

with a feeling of unease, fear, or anxiety about a potential future event

Dumbfounded

greatly astonished or amazed

Gaunt

lean and haggard, especially because of suffering, hunger, or age

Gibbet

an upright post with a projecting arm for hanging the bodies of executed criminals as a warning; gallows

Conciliatory

intended or likely to placate or pacify; to make someone feel less angry or hostile

Reprieve

a cancellation or postponement of a punishment

Belie

(1) to fail to give a true notion or impression of something; disguise or contradict; (2) to betray

Sibilance

the repetition of hissing sounds (like ‘s,’ ‘z,’ or ‘sh’) to create a specific effect in a line or sentence

Evading

escaping or avoiding the expression of a direct answer; dodging

Penitence

the action of feeling or showing sorrow and regret for having done wrong; repentance
