Criticised treatment of AAs. He attacked the federal programmes designed to help them, but which had been dominated by white officials. Attacked termination policy.
How did he introduce improved education provision for NAs?
Through 1972 Indian Education Act. This increased the money available for NA scls, even on reservations. Policy continued by further policies
What did some NA nations which had lost their status regain?
Recognition and rights. This allowed them access to courts where they could seek redress for their lost rights
How was the pledge to restore lost lands put into practice?
The return of lands to the Makah, Taos Pueblo and Yakama Indians
Who did Nixon appoint?
A NA, Louis R. Bruce Jr, was appointed Commissioner for Indian Affairs and a policy of affirmative action was pursued in appointments in the Bureau of Indian Affairs
