Lacrimal Gland
produces tears to moisten, lubricate and protect the eye’s surface
Where do Lacrimal Ducts lead to?
the eye and conjunctiva
Lacrimal Duct
a system of tiny tubes that drain tears from the eye’s surface into the nasal cavity
Conjunctiva
the mucous membrane that covers the front of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelid
Fibrous Tunic
the outermost, protective layer of the eye, consisting of the white, opaque sclera at the back and the transparent cornea at the front
Vascular Tunic
the middle layer of the eye that nourishes eye tissue with blood vessels
Choroid
a thin layer of tissue that is part of the middle layer of the wall of the eye, between the sclera and the retina
Ciliary Body
a circular ring of tissue in the eye, located behind the iris
Iris
the colored part of the eye that controls the pupil
Neural Tunic
innermost layer of the eye, also known as the retina, which contains light-sensitive photoreceptor cells and converts light into electrical signals
Pigmented Epithelium
a single layer of pigmented cells in the eye that support and nourish the photoreceptors in the retina
Rods and Cones
two types of photoreceptor cells in the eye that convert light into neural signals
Rods
dim light, night vision, peripheral vision, extremely sensitive to light, do not see color
Cones
bright light, color vision, less sensitive to light, detects green, red, and blue light
