Small Intestine
The part of the digestive system where almost all chemical digestion and absorption of nutrients takes place.
Large Intestine
The part of the digestive system that absorbs water from waste material and compresses waste for removal from the body.
Villi
Tiny finger-like projections in the small intestine that absorb nutrient molecules.
Liver
The largest organ in the body that breaks down medicines, eliminates nitrogenous wastes, and produces bile.
Pancreas
An organ that produces enzymes that help break down starches, proteins, and fats.
Bile
A substance produced by the liver that breaks up large fat drops into small drops, stored in the gallbladder.
Rectum
The part of the large intestine that compresses waste into solid form.
Anus
The opening at the end of the digestive system where waste is expelled.
Probiotics
Helpful bacteria present in the large intestine that contribute to health, and produce Vitamin K.
