Natural selection
the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
Adaptation
the action or process of adapting or being adapted.
Camouflage
he disguising of military personnel, equipment, and installations by painting or covering them to make them blend in with their surroundings.
Environmental pressures
the strain or impact on the environment caused by human activities and other factors, leading to changes in the state of the environment
Population
all the inhabitants of a particular town, area, or country
Traits
a distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person
Mutation
the action or process of mutating
Environmental mutagens
chemical or physical agents in the environment that can induce genetic mutations or increase mutation rates in living organisms
Whole Chromosome Mutation
a change in the number or structure of chromosomes
Gene Mutation
a permanent change in the DNA sequence of a gene
Substitution Mutation
a type of point mutation where one nucleotide (base) in a DNA sequence is replaced by another nucleotide
Insertion Mutation
a type of genetic change where one or more new nucleotide base pairs are added into a DNA sequence
Deletion Mutation
a type of genetic change where one or more nucleotides are removed from a DNA sequence
Artificial selection
the process where humans intentionally breed plants and animals for specific traits, leading to changes in the genetic makeup of those species over time
Genetic engineering
the deliberate modification of the characteristics of an organism by manipulating its genetic material
Genetically Modified Organisms
a plant, animal, or microorganism whose genetic material (DNA) has been altered using genetic engineering techniques
Transgenic organisms
an organism whose genome has been altered by the introduction of foreign genes from another species
Gene Therapy
the transplantation of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders
