Its an explanation of how a city's population may be distributed. - Largest city in the country as a baseline and ranks other cities in relation to it.

When a city has a population of over 10 million people.

Global cities - they have mass control over their country or region and the globe as well.

Its a model that shows how a city grows outward from its CBD in a series of concentric rings.
Sector model
As the cities develop, wedge-shaped divisions expand from the CBD.

Chauncey Harris and Edward Ullman showed that the largest cities don't grow in rings or sectors.

The peripheral model: that cities have a traditional downtown and loose coalitions of other urban centers.

Griffin Ford Model - It follows the usual city layout with a CBD and rings, but it also includes religious and government buildings.

Informal housing areas with overcrowding and mass poverty.

Average model but it also includes info on how the first CBD was made by colonizers.

Grown around ports that lack a clear CBD.
