Operational Effectiveness
-Performing the same tasks better than rivals
-Sameness
-Creates commodity goods
Fast Follower Problem
Rivals copy tech, learn from the firm’s mistakes, and enter market with better tech
Strategic Positioning
Performing the same tasks in a different way and it’s harder for rivals to copy
Resource Based View (RBV) of Competitive Advantage
-Value
-Rarity
-Imperfectly imitable (can’t be imitated
-Non-substitutable
Omnichannel Strategy
Using multiple channels to reach customer’s need and improve the customer experience
Product Market Fit Model
Successful efforts should be desired by customers
Vertically Integrated model and Context With Fresh Direct
They own 1+ steps in value chain and its only 3 steps farm, warehouse, to consumer homes
How does Fresh Direct offer strategic positioning
-emphasize freshness
-targeted a specific market
-customer experience
Switching costs
Cost customer pays when moving from 1 product to another
Straddling

How Zara does things differently
-Vertically Integrated
-High Inventory turnover
-Uses pda system (personal digital assistant)
-RFID - chips that wirelessly track items
Moore’s law
Transistors on a chip double every 18 months = faster phones for a lower price.
Challenges of Moore’s law
Overheating, bugs, and limited space , diminishing returns
High latency vs low latency
High latency = slow apps, buffering videos, delayed communication
Low latency = smooth calls, instant payment, higher speeds, no delays in communication
Cloud computing
Delivery of computing services over internet that allows users to access these services from anywhere without hardware
3 cloud service models
SaaS (Software as a Service) - Firms use third party providers that do everything like drop box. For end users.
The least flexibility and control. The firm is dependent on a 3rd party so if the 3rd party goes bankrupt then the firm loses their resources. Cannot access if no internet & usually weak connection
PaaS (Platform as a Service) - Offers platform and delivers tools for building and testing applications. For programmer users.
Manages everything but application and data . Programmers can test and software in the cloud
IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) - Virtual storage and networks that only provide foundational IT resources over the cloud as an alternative to hardware.
Software vs Firmware
Software - Computer program or collection of programs
Firmware - Specific software that provides core functions and runs a piece of hardware
Applications
Operating System
provides set of controls to control hardware
Applications
Helps users perform tasks like apps
Client server architecture
Client - program that makes a request
Server - responds to request
