Antiseptics

Substances that are commonly applied to the living tissue such as skin and mucus membrane.

Sterilants

Eliminate all forms of microbial life on objects or surfaces including bacterial spores which can survive other germicides.

Disinfectants

Substances commonly used to kill or inhibit microbe on non-living object (floor,table,sink)

Antibiotics

Substances produced as metabolic products of one microorganism which inhibit or kill other microorganism

Broad spectrum

Any antimicrobial agent that is effective against variety of microorganisms or any that is effective against gram positive or negative bacteria.

Zone of inhibition

Clear zone around test chemical.

Additive effect

When 2 or more chemical equal the sum of effect of the drugs.

Synergistic effect

When 2 or more chemicals produced a combined effect that is greater sum than if separate.
