Exothermic Reaction
A type of chemical reaction in which heat energy is released into the surroundings.
Endothermic Reaction
A chemical reaction that absorbs heat energy from the surroundings, making the surroundings colder.
Example of Exothermic Reaction
Combustion of fuels, such as burning wood or gasoline, which releases heat energy.
Photosynthesis
An endothermic reaction in plants that absorbs sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
Kinetic Energy
The energy an object has due to its motion, which affects the rate of chemical reactions.
Neutralization Reaction
An exothermic reaction between an acid and a base that forms water and a salt.
Melting of Ice
An endothermic process where solid ice absorbs heat energy to become liquid water.
Respiration
An exothermic process in which glucose is broken down in the body to release energy.
Energy Profile Diagram
A graphical representation showing the energy changes during a chemical reaction.
Rusting of Iron
An exothermic reaction where iron reacts with oxygen and water, releasing heat and forming rust.
