Glen is paid 5$ for each hour he works, what type of reinforcement is this?
Fixed Interval Reinforcement
Wanda is paid 2$ for each bag of leaves she rakes, what type of reinforcement is this?
Fixed Ratio Reinforcement
operant conditioning was invented by who
B.F Skinner
Which Schedule of reinforcement can be addictive
Variable Ration Reinforcement
Operant conditioning used what animal as a test
Rat
Who researched Trail and Error learning using cats in puzzle boxes
Thorndike
Which of the following can happen when reinforcement for correct responses are no longer given
Extinction
What happens during operant conditioning
An association is made between a response and its consequence
What is reinforcement
Anything that INCREASES the likelihood that a behavior will occur again
What is punishment
Any consequence that DECREASES the likelihood that a behavior will occur again
What is the difference between Primary and Secondary Reinforcement?
Primary is a biological needs/unlearned (Food, Water, Sleep, Ending Pain). Secondary is through association/learned (Money, Praise, good grades, awards, attention, etc.)
Taking medication to end a sickness is what type of reinforcement?
Negative Reinforcement
The school day follows what schedule of reinforcement?
Fixed interval schedule reinforcement
What is the difference between Positive and Negative Reinforcement?
Positive adds something positive while negative removes something bad
Which schedule of reinforcement is the best reinforcement?
Continuous reinforcement because it teaches new behaviors fast through creating strong associations quickly, and the behavior is rewarded each time.
Name an example of Operant Conditioning in your life and explain how it is operant conditioning. Include: the behavior (action/response and consequence/reinforcement, the type of reinforcement (positive/negative) and the schedule of reinforcement.
Studying regularly and working hard in my classes (behavior), and in turn, I get A's on my report card (consequence). The A's are a reward as they keep me studying. This is positive reinforcement because my behavior caused a good thing to happen. It is a fixed interval because report cards come out every quarter.
What is Operant Conditioning?
a type of learning where behavior is controlled by consequences, specifically through reinforcement (which increases a behavior) or punishment (which decreases it)
Positive Punishment/ PP
Behavior causes a bad thing to happen. Behavior decreases.
Negative Punishment/ NP
Behavior causes a good thing to stop. Behavior decreases.
Trial and Error Learning
Occurs when a response is associated with a successful solution after a series of unsuccessful attempts.
shaping
condition responses that would not occur naturally; change behavior or thinking with positive reinforcement
Superstitions
When a reward follows a response, but the two are not related, falsely believes a connection exists between the act and the consequence
