First Responder (FR)
An individual trained to provide immediate aid and support at the scene of an emergency.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
A certification level for individuals trained to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
A certification level for individuals trained to provide advanced emergency medical care.
Paramedic
A highly trained professional who provides advanced emergency medical care and can perform advanced medical procedures.
Routine Patient Care
The standard procedures and protocols followed by EMS personnel to provide basic care to patients.
Medical Control Orders
Instructions given by a physician or medical director over the radio for specific patient care situations.
Pediatric-specific protocol
Protocols that are tailored specifically for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients.
