Homologous structures
Automatically similar and similar function for example a human eye and a rat eye meaning that mouse and humans are closely related. This shows that their limbs change over time to adapt to new environments. Although it can have similar functions it can also have different functions. For example a human, a cat, a whale, and a bat, used for swimming, walking, flying or grabbing they all still have the same bone structure but just different limbs. This all shows common ancestry.
Analogous structures
This means that certain species have the same function of a body part but different structure, this means that they did not come from the same ancestor and that they are not related. For example, the wings of a bird and wings of an insect.
