Hemopoiesis
It is a blood production. It is a continual process designed to meet the demand of replacing circulating cells that have worn out or been lost through bleeding.
thrombopoiesis, leukopoiesis, and erythropoiesis
three types of hemopoiesis
hemocytoblast
A stem cell that is the starting cell for the production of all the formed elements and located in red bone marrow.
Myeloid hemopoiesis
It is the production of all the formed elements in the red bone marrow
lymphoid hemopoiesis
The additional production in sites outside the red bone marrow
Thrombopoiesis
A production of platelets and it begins with a hemocytoblast in the red bone
marrow
thrombopoietin
A chemical when there is a need for more platelets, the liver and kidneys produce
Thrombopoietin
This causes the hemocytoblast to grow and divide to become a megakaryocyte
25% to 40%
newly formed platelets are stored in the spleen until they are needed
