Magnet
Any material that attracts iron or materials containing iron.
Magnetic Pole
One of two points, such as the ends of a magnet, that have opposing magnetic qualities.
Magnetic Force
The force of attraction or repulsion generated by moving or spinning electric charges.
Ferromagnet
Magnets made from materials like iron, nickel, cobalt, or mixtures of these metals that have strong magnetic properties.
Electromagnet
A magnet made by an electric current, usually having an iron core.
Temporary Magnet
A magnet that is made from materials that are easy to magnetize but tend to lose their magnetization easily.
Permanent Magnet
A magnet that is difficult to magnetize but retains its magnetic properties longer than temporary magnets.
Magnetic Field Lines
Lines that show the shape of a magnetic field around a magnet, with closer lines indicating a stronger magnetic field.
Domains
Tiny areas within a magnet where groups of atoms have aligned magnetic poles.
Demagnetization
The process of losing magnetic properties, often due to movement of domains in the material.
