Furniture Plan

Floor Plan
A drawing from above showing the layout of a building's spaces, including walls, doors, and windows.
Elevation
A view of a building or interior space from one side, indicating vertical dimensions and features.
Section
A cut-through view of a building showing interior details like walls, floors, and ceilings.
Extension Lines
Lines that extend from the object to indicate the limits being dimensioned.
Dimension Lines
Lines that include the measurement, typically marked with arrows at both ends.
Tick Marks
Small marks at the ends of dimension lines that indicate where measurements are taken.
Interior Walls
Typically 4" to 6" thick in residential design.
Exterior Walls
Usually 6" to 12" thick, depending on insulation materials.
Residential Plans Scale
Typically uses a 1/4" = 1' scale.
Commercial Plans Scale

Tread
The horizontal step of a stair, usually a minimum of 9".
