What is natural selection
The process that leads to evolution in a population. It results in a species becoming better adapted to their environment. Adaptations may be anatomical eg the giraffe's long neck for reaching high branches, physiological eg a snake's venom, the ability of desert frogs to store water, and the release of antifreeze proteins by fish in cold climates or behavioural eg migration, hibernation.
What is the process of natural selection
1.New alleles for a gene are created by
random mutations
2. If the new alleles increases the chances
of the individual to survive in that
environment, then they are more likely to
survive and reproduce
3, This reproduction passes on the
advantageous allele to the next
generation.
As a result, over many generations, the
new allele increases in frequency in the
population
