Where is DNA stored?
-Eukaryotic Cells: have a nucleus to contain their DNA
-Prokaryotic Cells: do not have a nucleus, so it floats in the cytoplasm
What is DNA useful for?
DNA holds the information that regulates growth and development of each cell.
DNA condense and organize (Start)
Starts to organize itself in the G2 phase.
DNA condense and organize (Ends)
Finishes organizing itself into condensed chromosomes during mitosis.
Starts as-
Double stranded DNA (double helix).
Histones-
Protein that DNA wraps around.
Chromatin-
When DNA has wrapped around 8 histones.
Supercoiled DNA
First time DNA is condensed in Mitosis.
Sister Chromatids-
Identical to each other.
Chromosome
Made of 2 sister chromatids.
