foreshadowing
when an author hints about what will occur later in a story

A long, emotionally violent, attack using strong, abusive language.
irony
when the opposite of what is expected happens
verbal irony
When you say something and mean the opposite/something different. (ex an 8 mile run a "walk in the park")
dramatic irony
when a reader is aware of something that a character isn't (ex horror movie, we know killer but main character doesn't and ironically trusts them)
situational irony
it makes you laugh because it's funny how things turn out (johnny spends two hours trying to get into a movie but ends up missing the movie)
Juxtaposition
placing two things side by side for the purposes of comparison
