T or F: oxygen poor blood is blue in the human body
false
List three substances found in the blood plasma
water, plasma proteins, nutrients
What blood type is shown by the following blood type test? (anti B and D are dissolved)
B+
List the steps of blood clotting in the correct order
1. Platelet plug - platelets stick together 2. Vascular spasm - blood vessels limit blood loss 3. Coagulation
Put the layers of the heart wall and its coverings in order from superficial to deep
parietal pericardium, pericardial cavity, epicardium, myocardium, endocardium
Which chambers are known as the “discharging chambers”?
ventricles
Which side of the heart pumps the pulmonary circuit?
right
Put the nodes of the heart's intrinsic conduction system in order
sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node, bundle of his, purkinje fibers
List the three functions of the vascular system
transporting oxygen and nutrients to tissues, removing metabolic waste products, and regulating blood pressure
What is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure?
systolic - blood pressure when heart is contracting (out of the heart), diastolic - blood pressure when heart is relaxed (into the heart)
What is the only vein that carries oxygen rich blood?
pulmonary vein
What is hypertension?
Hypertension is high blood pressure
What are 3 factors that can lead to hypertension?
Stress, high salt diet, and genetics lead to hypertension.
Compare the structure and function of veins and arteries
veins: Thinner and less muscular walls (blood pressure is much lower), larger lumen (moves large volumes of low blood pressure), contains valves (prevents blood from flowing backwards), and less elastic (don't need to stretch)
arteries: Thick and muscular walls (can handle high pressure), small lumen (keeps pressure high), elastic fibers (allows arteries to stretch with each heartbeat), and no valves (blood is pushed forward with high pressure)
