What is an electromagnet?
A strong, temporary magnet formed when current is passed through a coil of wire surrounding an iron core.
How can you increase the strength of an electromagnet?
By increasing the number of coils, moving the coils closer together, or increasing the voltage.
What is electromagnetic induction?
The process of producing a current by moving a wire through a magnetic field or moving a magnet through a coil of wire.
What happens to the direction of current flow if the magnet is moved in the opposite direction?
The direction of the induced current is reversed.
What is a speaker's function in terms of energy conversion?
A speaker converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
What is an electric generator?
A device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy by rotating an armature between magnet poles.
What is the difference between direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC)?
DC flows in only one direction, while AC flows in different directions.
What does a transformer do?
A transformer increases or decreases AC voltage.
What is a step-up transformer?
A transformer that increases voltage by having more turns in the primary coil.
What is a step-down transformer?
A transformer that decreases voltage by having fewer turns in the primary coil.
