Percolation

The movement and filtering of water through soil materials

Well

A device used by humans to carry water out of the aquifer to be used

Runoff

Water (and substances carried in it ) flowing from the surface of the area of land into a larger body of water

Groundwater

Water found under the ground/also known as a aquifer

Recharge zone

The place where rainwater is able to seep into the ground and refill aquifer

Aquifer

A layer of saturated,porous soil and rock that houses groundwater

Porous rock

Rock that contains empty

spaces within its particles , allowing water to flow through

Surface water

Water is found on the surface of earth

Watershed

An area of land that drains to a particular body of water such as a river or, lake supplying water to it.

Water table

The imaginary line separating saturated soil from unsaturated soil (Saturated soil is the aquifer)

Impermeable rock

Layer of earth made of materials that do not allow items to go through it including water
