Indirect Inveseting
Buying & selling of shares of investment companies that, in turn, hold portfolios of securities.
Closed end investment companies
investment company with fixed capitalization whose shares trade on exchanges & OTC. Offers investors actively managed portfolios of securities. Trades on stock exchange.
ETF - Exchange traded funds
Generally index fund priced & traded on exchanges. Most are passive.
Mutual Fund (open end investment companies)
MF’s provide professional managers to manage portfolios. Do not trade on stock exchange. Bought and sold back to investment company.
Momentum Investing
Relates to purchasing/selling stocks showing strong/weak recent price performance.
MMF - Money Market Mutual Fund
Short term investing in money market assets. Average maturity 1-2 months; max 90 days. Fixed income securities with short maturities - must constantly roll over holdings.
Equity (stock) funds
Value funds - inexpensive stocks on basis of fundamental analysis
Growth funds - find companies expected to show strong future growth in earnings.
