Time implies change & movement, movement implies action & guides eyes

Shape

Two dimensions, only height & width, usually defined by lines

Space

Real space is 3D, refers to depth, negative space v. positive space

Texture

Surface quality conveys texture in 2D/3D

Value

Brightness of color (dark v. light)

Volume

Made to appear 3D in 2D works

Balance

Sense of distribution of perceived visual weights

Contrast

Difference between art elements like color, value, size, texture, etc...

Emphasis

Area or object within artwork that draws attention

Focal Point

Area of emphasis that demands most attention

Pattern

Organizes structures in a consistent, regular manner

Proportion

Refers to relative size; relationship between size of one element and another

Combination of elements repeated with variations

Different from proportion, size of one object in relation to another
